Family Quest - A Family Therapy Board Game

A Life Changing Game For The Whole Family!

Family Quest is a family therapy board game that utilizes the metaphor of a jungle environment and an expedition on the game board to illustrate the difficulties involved in keeping a family together AND engaged with one another.

Family Quest allows the therapist the opportunity to observe how family members interact and assess what types of interventions are required in therapy. While the game was designed to be used as an introductory intervention with families, it can be used at any point during treatment. For example, it could be used initially and then used periodically as a barometer of how much progress the family is making in terms of their communication, knowledge of each other, and gelling as a family unit.

There are three types of questions (Family Discussion Questions, Family Trivia Questions, and Family Team-Up Questions) players will be answering during the game. The questions are designed to allow the individual family members to talk about themselves and how they feel about certain topics, to allow for discussion, to reveal information about family dynamics and family roles, and to help the family learn things about each other that they might not have known before playing this game.

In addition, the Family Team-Up Questions require family members to work together to try and answer questions. Answering questions earns players points and puzzle pieces of a home which is outlined in the center of the game board. Family members must work together to construct the home with the earned puzzle pieces. Once the puzzle is put together and the home is complete, the game is finished.

Dr. Eric Terry, the author of the game, is a family therapist who also created Peacetown: A Conflict Resolution Game.
